The Sabbath-School

Representative Text

1 This holy Sabbath day we come,
Dear Saviour, in thy name;
Assembled in the Sabbath School,
Thy presence now we claim.
Our cheerful homes we gladly leave
To come to this blest place,
For here we learn of heavenly things,
And may receive thy grace.

Chorus:
The Sabbath School, the Sabbath School,
The place we dearly love;
'Tis here well ever gladly come,
Till raised to heaven above.

2 And now we bid thee, dearest Lord,
Come into every heart,
And to each teacher and each child
The Holy Ghost impart;
For only by its light can we
The Scriptures comprehend,
And by its power be safely kept
From sin unto the end. [Chorus]

3 In every prayer, in every song,
Do thou, blest Jesus, be,
And may we all this sacred hour
Become still more like thee.
And when we leave this hallowed place,
Do thou with each one go,
And ever in our hearts abide
While living here below. [Chorus]
