Allen, Oswald, son of John Allen, banker, of Kirkby Lonsdale, Westmoreland, and great-nephew of James Allen (q.v.); born at Kirkby Lonsdale, 1816, and educated in that town. After residing for a time in Glasgow, he returned to Kirkby Lonsdale, and joined the staff of the local bank; died October 2, 1878. In 1861 (Preface, Oct. 1861), he published Hymns of the Christian Life, Lond., Nisbet.
