Charles E. Clouse was born in Nappanee,Indiana. He lived his whole life in this rural community except for brief periods of time in South Dakota and New Mexico. He was a cabinet maker by trade. He wrote many hymn texts and composed a tune for each. Ten of his songs were included in Brethren in Christ publications and he served on the hymnal committee which compiled and published Spiritual Songs and Hymns, 1935.
