1. When o'er stormy oceans of life we are sailing,
Where reefs may endanger and billows roll high,
Our struggle thro' darkness seems all unavailing
Till Jesus, our Helmsman, shows safety is nigh.
Chorus
With Him as our helmsman in darkness and danger,
We rest in His keeping by night and by day;
He'll anchor our bark in the Haven up yonder,
And there we'll forget all the toil of the way.
2. When out in the darkness with fog all around us,
The word of our Captain shines forth as a light:
Tho' almost a shipwreck, we know He has found us;
He shortens the journey: illumines our night.
3. If billows surround us and tempest rage madly,
We're nearer the Haven each moment that goes:
Soon sorrows and trials, that troubled us badly,
Are all left behind with the ocean of woes.
