When the early dawn was breaking, Came the women to the tomb

Tune: [When the early dawn was breaking] (Woodbridge)
Published in 2 hymnals

Representative Text

1 When the early dawn was breaking,
Came the women to the tomb,
For they thought that Christ, the Savior,
Was dead and gone.

Refrain:
Oh, they found the stone roll'd away,
rolled away, rolled away,
"He is not here, but risen",
they heard the angels say.

2 Then the weeping women enter'd
Jesus' tomb so cold and drear,
There two men in shining raiment
Said "He is not here." [Refrain]

3 Yea, the Lord indeed is risen,
Death could never hold its prey,
He's ascended now in glory
And will come some day. [Refrain]
