Authority identifier

An authority identifier is the internal way of identifying an authority. It consists of a main part and an optional disambiguation part. The main part must be between 1 and 40 characters and can only consist of lowercase letters, numbers, and the underscore character. If the authority contains a disambiguation part, it must be preceded by a hyphen, be between 1 and 9 characters, and can consist of the same characters as the main part.

Use in instances

Every instance must have an authority identifier to indicate what authority it is connected to. This authority identifier can be edited on the instance edit page.
