Hymn Topics

You are here

Hi,

In Hymnary.org, it is great that hymns can be searched using topics in Advanced Search. Any idea how I can find the list of topics in a hymn?

Topics in a hymn may be found in the text information for the instance (for example https://hymnary.org/hymn/GG2013/30 - scroll down past the page scan and you will find the text information with the topics the hymnal has matched this hymn to. Or, to see all the topics for a particular hymn from all the hymnals, you can turn on "Subjects" from the Add/Remove fields menu. To see all the topics in a particular hymnal index, click on "Topics" in the Indexes box on the hymnal page. I hope this answers your question, if not. let us know.

The listing of the topics from all the hymnals for a given hymn may be found by searching for the hymn, then going to the list of Instances (hymnals where the text can be found) which is on the bottom of the summary page for the text. In the upper right of the list you should find an Add/Remove fields menu where you can check the box next to Subjects.
