28. We praise the Lord and thank Him for His blessings

1 We praise the Lord and thank Him for His blessings
For He alone is God and Lord.
Through faith let us cling unto Him forever
And serve Him both in deed and word.

2 How mercifully God deals with His children;
We are not worthy of His grace.
Mere mortals cannot dare to stand before Thee,
Eternal Ruler of our days.

3 The needy will receive God's help and blessing;
He satisfies the hungry soul.
He strengthens those whose flame of faith is lagging;
To honor Him should be our goal.

4 The steadfast souls sing hymns of praise and glory,
Their faith holds true until the end.
They shun no toil but strive to spread His story
And cling to God their dearest friend.

5 Thou art the God of miracles and wonders;
Revenge is also sent by thee.
Lord, we repent, give us a heart that's humble;
Thy grace alone can set us free.

6 Yet when Thy store of patience is exhausted
Thy judgment strikes like lightning bolts.
When love and mercy cannot reach us sinners
then woe unto our trembling souls.

7 Turn back, my people, and revise your values.
Think of the mercies God bestowed
On us. Our homes, this bounteous land of ours,
Our very lives to Him are owed.
8 Yet with this praise there is a note of sadness:
All mortal life some day must end
And worldly goods, e'en as the grass and flowers,
But for a season us are lent.

9 Oh, ill-spent past how often dost thou haunt me;
My conscience stirs and will not sleep.
Yet in my heart a voice still spurs me onward
To that which I sincerely seek.

10 He who has been my friend in joy and sorrow
Shared dark and sunny days with me
By grace will guide me to a bright tomorrow;
To serve Him is my fervent plea.

11 In life He's been my refuge and my fortress
When shadows fall He will not flee.
He blotted out my sins and my transgressions
While on the cross at Calvary.

12 Thy grace is my beginning and my ending;
Let it be praised and it alone.
My heart now turns to Thee, O Lord and Savior;
Great are the works which Thou hast done.
