7. Oh, world, I now forsake thee

1 Oh, world, I now forsake thee
May Christ's love soon o'ertake me;
For me His blood was shed.
When on the cross He suffered,
His life for me He offered,
And washed away my sins so red.

2 My life is quickly ending;
Thy angel Thou art sending
To lead from misery.
Along death's road of sadness
Till I find hope and gladness,
From death's cold hand forever free.

3 Jesus, light of the pious,
Accept me without bias,
I, like a lamb, did stray.
My conscience Thou didst waken,
By sin I now am shaken.
My debt had multiplied each day.

4 My sins through tears bemoaning,
I plead for God's atoning,
That I might pardoned be.
In faith united ever,
Our bond no one shall sever.
'Twas Christ who earned God's grace.

5 The body now is buried,
To earth and depth 'tis carried,
Transformed in its demise.
All earthly beings must perish,
Yet God's own He will cherish;
Like Jesus Christ, they will arise.

6 "Soon unto me I'll draw them,"
Spoke Jesus when He saw them,
"The ones my Father chose."
This holds for times unending.
Those suff'ring and defending
Will in true love hold Jesus close.

7 In Jesus' name, I'm saying,
While Yea and Amen praying,
"This is how it will be!
I'll find my rest in heaven,
All sins will be forgiven,
And I'll have immortality!"
