70. Once Again a Week Has Ended

1 Once again a week has ended;
Nearer to eternity.
Swiftly as an arrow flying,
So our life does quickly flee.
Faithfully our God above
Gives unchanging, steadfast love.
Oh, dear Lord, what shall I bring Thee
For the patience you've had in me?

2 I am trembling, Holy Spirit,
My heart full of doubt and fear.
Show me how to serve and worship
That it please Thine eyes and ear.
Holy, holy, holy Lord,
Thou art like a two-edged sword.
Thy forgiveness I do cherish,
Otherwise I'm bound to perish.

3 It can be most terrifying
To fall 'neath the curse of God.
One who to His flock is crying:
"I am not here to be mocked!
Let yourselves not be misled.
For your sins repent instead.
I am a consuming fire
Fiercely burning on the pyre."

4 Yet, dear God, Thou canst be gentle
With a heart of love and care,
Here on earth Thy Son extended
Sacrifices more than fair.
I'm entrusted to Thine hand,
In its keeping safely stand
When the serpent comes to tempt me,
From its evil ways defend me.

5 Forward, heart with praises ringing,
Thank God for His ceaseless love.
Dedicate your joyful singing
To the Prince of Peace above.
Consecrate your life anew,
Faithfully your goal pursue,
Till the crown to you is given:
Your reward when you reach heaven.
