1 I will never doubt or falter
In my trust in Christ, our Lord;
And the Tempter cannot alter
My God's promises and word.
Though the heavens disappear
His word will remain forever.
Should the earth expire in fear,
Lo, my Savior leaves me never.
2 Though the elements be melting
In the final judgment's fire.
And the oceans, upward surging,
Wash away the highest spire;
If the universe should fall
And mankind become fainthearted,
On this ponder, one and all,
Christ from me will not be parted.
3 In my heart these words are written
By Thy hand, O Son of God,
That forever Thou wilt love me,
Me, a lowly, mortal clod.
O most holy Majesty,
Truly, Thou art faithful ever.
I will give myself to Thee.
Naught this precious bond can sever.
4 Lord, Thy grace for me has charted
The direction I must take.
Now my journey I have started
On to heaven's narrow gate.
Thou wilt surely let me in,
Thou the Way, the Life, the Portal.
Through Thy sacrifice I win
That great gift of life immortal.
5 Let my spirit's lamp be ready
When the Heave'nly Bridegroom nears.
Let my flame of faith be steady
When the Lamb of God appears
On that last great judgment day
When the midnight trumpet thunders.
Blest are they who watch and pray
When the world in darkness blunders.
6 God will surely bring to flower
What He has begun in me.
Jesus, through the Spirit's power,
Will restore and set me free.
Till that day when all alone,
God, Triune forever reigneth,
And, my soul, before His throne
Perfect peace at last attaineth.
