Text: | Rest Thee by the Way |
Author: | Fanny J. Crosby |
Tune: | [Take up, take up thy burden] |
Composer: | Jno. R. Sweney |
1 Take up, take up thy burden,
Why weary should’st thou be?
Far greater were the trials
Thy Saviour bore for thee.
Refrain:
Lean thou on him for comfort,
Whose gentle voice will say,
“There’s rest beside the fountain;”
Go, rest thee by the way.
2 Take up, take up thy burden
Of duty, toil and care,
And if its weight oppress thee,
Then find relief in prayer. [Refrain]
3 Take up, take up thy burden
Of sorrow if ‘tis thine;
Thro’ clouds that seem the darkest
The brightest beams will shine. [Refrain]
4 Yes, bear thy burden meekly
Till God shall lay it down,
And thou for faithful service
From him receive thy crown. [Refrain]
