63. Ah, the trembling of that day

Ah, the trembling of that day,
Ah, the terror, and the dread;
When the heavens are rolled away,
And the Judge of quick and dead
In the judgement shall not fail;--
Who shall not his sin bewail?

Spare me, Lord, Thy creature spare,
When to judgement I am borne;
I have sinned, but, Lord forbear,
Every sin I humbly mourn;
Thou alone art sinless! Save:
Grant the mercy that I crave.

Yea, my tears refuse to flow,
True repentance I have none;--
Were I contrite, I should know
All the evil I have done;
In my blindness mercy give,
Speak the word and I shall live.
