42. Ye Have Done It Unto Me

1 Borne on the wings of a chilling blast,
Came a cry of distress and of woe;
I hastened my steps, I would hurry past,
When the thought came to me I know
‘Tis the voice of Jesus calling me
He is needing my succor and care.
I will help what I can, oh, my Lord for Thee
An aid to the suff’ring bear.

Refrain:
“In as much as ye did it to one of these”
He tenderly said, “ye have done it to me;
In as much as ye did it to one of these
He tenderly said, “ye have done it to me.”

2 Once to my door came a stranger old,
With a haggard and pitiful face,
He cried, “Take me in from the paths of sin
I have wandered in deep disgrace.”
‘Twas the voice of Jesus calling me
He was needing my succor and care.
In the form of the stranger my Lord I see
My home He shall surely share. [Refrain]

3 Hark! brother hark! to the cry for aid,
As you go upon life’s daily round,
The hungry and perishing faint and fade
And their sorrow and want abound.
‘Tis the voice of Jesus calling thee
He is needing my succor and care.
In the forms of the lowly your Savior see,
Your wealth with the needy share. [Refrain]
