1 O holy Emman'el! thy Myst'ry divine,
From Glory to Glory, on Zion shall shine,
The Myst'ry of God espous'd to a Worm,
Who neither had Merit, nor beautiful Form;
Yet rais'd to the Bosom of God, the Supreme,
She sings she is like him, yet does not blaspheme.
2 O lovely Emman'el! illustrious thy Grace!
The Beauties of Holiness shine in thy Face:
Triumphant in bliss, our Nature we spy,
And we, in that nature, join'd to the most High:
The Image express of the Substance of God;
His Brightness appearing by Water and Blood.
3 O sacred Emman'el! our Glory, our Joy;
In mut'al Embraces, which never shall cloy,
The Bridegroom and Bride, our Maker and we,
Perpetually live, as united in thee;
Consummate Salvation, reveal'd in thy Blood,
In thee we possess, with the Fulness of God.
4 O glorious Emman'el! Jehovah with Man!
With us is God present; (amazing the Plan!)
Perfection of Joy we now understand,
Whilst Rivers of Pleasures flow at his Right Hand:
We stand, when no higher our Notes we can raise,
In Silence, expressive of Wonder and Praise.
