13111. Our Heavenly Shepherd

1 When life’s little day is ended,
And the shades of evening fall,
Then, as lambs that know their shepherd,
We shall hear the Master’s call.
In the fold of Heaven gathered,
We shall rest secure for aye;
There no danger e’er shall enter,
And not one shall go astray.

Refrain:
Like the lambs that know their shepherd,
We shall hear the Master’s call,
When life’s little day is ended,
And the shades of evening fall.

2 How blessed to hear Him calling,
Softly at the close of day;
Searching tenderly for the careless,
That not one shall go astray.
O how sweet to pass securely
An eternal life above,
In the presence of our Shepherd,
And protected by His love. [Refrain]

3 There is not an earthly shepherd
Half so good and kind as He;
And no shepherd’s love so tender
As His love for you and me;
And no shepherd’s voice so gentle,
Calling to His earthly sheep,
As the Savior’s, when He sweetly
Giveth His beloved sleep. [Refrain]
