Then the Shep­herd true looks and longs for you,
Still away in the gloom and cold.

2 Lo, the gales arise, and the storm swept skies
Are as wild and as black as doom;
But a door ajar, like a single star,

3 O, the Shep­herd true, in the rain or dew,
Still is call­ing for His own;
Will you ne­ver heed? Will you die in­deed
