554. In the March of Life

1 In the march of life, thro’ its toil and strife,
Like the tried and true before us,
Let us onward go, for the Lord, we know,
Spreads the banner of his mercy o’er us.
If we trust in Hi we shall fear no ill,
From His love no pow’r can sever;
With His armor bright we’ll defend the right
And abide in Him forever.

Refrain:
In the march of life, thro’ its toil and strife,
Like the tried and true before us,
Let us onward go, for the Lord, we know,
Spreads the banner of his mercy o’er us.

2 In the march of life, thro’ its toil and strife,
There are foes that oft assail us;
But we need not fear, for the Lord is near,
And his mighty arm will never fail us.
In the trying hour of the tempter’s power,
On the Lord our God relying,
We can march unharmed, we can march unmove,
With the keenest arrows flying. [Refrain]

3 Let our faith be strong as we march along,
Let us go without repining,
Tho’ the clouds may frown, yet beyond their gloom
We can see the golden sunlight shining.
When our race is run, and our work well done,
When we meet beyond the river,
We shall gain the crown, lay our burdens down,
And shall rest in joy forever. [Refrain]
