293. My God, Is Any Hour So Sweet

1 My God, is any hour so sweet,
From blush of morn to evening fair,
As that which calls me to Thy feet,
The hour of pray'r?

2 Blest is that tranquil hour of morn,
And blest the solemn hour of eve,
When, on the wings of pray'r upborne,
The world I leave.

3 Then is my strength by Thee renew'd;
Then are my sins by Thee forgiv'n;
Then dost Thou cheer my solitude
With hopes of heav'n.

4 No words can tell what sweet relief
Here for my ev'ry want I find;
What strength for warfare, balm for grief,
What peace of mind.

5 Hush'd is each doubt, gone ev'ry fear;
My spirit seems in heav'n to stay;
And e'en the penitential tear
Is wip'd away.
