129. God's Holy Law

1 From Sinai’s smoking mountain
God speaks His holy law;
Retire, ye hosts of Israel,
And stand afar in awe.

Refrain:
The law of ten commandments
Fulfilled in Christ we see;
His blood was spilt for human guilt,
From sin He sets us free.

2 Serve thou the Lord Jehovah
And worship none but Me;
To stone or graven image
Thou shalt not bend the knee. [Refrain]

3 The name of the Creator
With fear and rev’rence say;
Observe His holy sabbath,
‘Tis God’s memorial day. [Refrain]

4 Thy father and thy mother,
Give them obedience due;
In wrath slay not another,
Be chaste in all things too. [Refrain]

5 Steal not, nor bear false witness,
But true and faithful be;
Nor covet of thy neighbor
What is not giv’n to thee. [Refrain]

6 ‘Mid peal of crashing thunder
God spake from heav’n above;
Lord, give us grace to keep it,
Thy perfect law of love. [Refrain]
