50. The true and loving God

1 Thou art the true and loving God!
Thus speaks whate’er I see,--
The Morning Star, the Evening red,
The grass upon the lea.

2 The birds both late and early sing.
“O Man! he loveth thee!"
On lily and on roseleaf sweet
Thy hand of love I see.

3 The great sun in his splendid gold,
With blessings rich doth shine,
On good and evil, day and night--
Thy image, Love divine!

4 And more, still more the noble man,
In all things he may do;
His shining work we see, and cry
Rejoicing, "God is true."
