Tune: | [In pain, on couch of weakness] |
Composer: | D. B. Towner |
1 In pain, on couch of weakness,
A weary suff’rer lay,
With face both pale and haggard,
In twilight, soft and gray;
A friend, departing, whispered
That Jesus still was nigh,
“Oh yes,” she slowly answered,
“He never says ‘Good-bye.’”
Chorus:
He never says “good-bye,”
He never says “good-bye.”
Tho’ all the world may turn away,
He never says “good-bye.”
2 He never leaves His people,
Nor e’er forsakes His own;
He knows their needs, however,
To others all unknown;
In sickness and in sorrow
He listens to their cry;
With loving arms around them
He never says “good-bye.” [Chorus]
3 The joys of earth may vanish,
Its music cease to cheer,
Its brightness be o’erclouded,
Its glory disappear;
Our nearest friends may leave us,
Our mother stay not by,
But Jesus never fails us,
He never says “good-bye.” [Chorus]
4 And tho’ we often grieve Him,
Unmindful of His love,
While straying from the pasture
He watches still above;
He notes the rugged pathway
That brings the bitter sigh,
And lifts us to His bosom,
He never says “good-bye.” [Chorus]
5 A darkened vale is nearing,
The hour has come to die;
But still He walks beside us,
And grace doth He supply;
From death to life arisen,
With Him are we on high!
In heav’nly life and glory
He never says “good-bye.” [Chorus]
