Notes: |
This Taizé chant should be sung in all possible permutations. First, teach both the melody and the
descant. Once the congregation knows these parts, they are free to sing either part, staggering their entrances
to form a double-layered canon. While it is possible to bring singers in section by section, it resonates more
deeply if these parts are distributed freely throughout the assembly. The chant should be sung joyfully and
should not be halted too early. The song needs time to develop. To conclude the singing, a lead musician
should indicate a ritard. All end together at the end of the two-measure phrase, regardless of where they are
in the canon. |
