I shall then so happy be;
In my heart a rich delight
Shall abide by day and night.
Lead me gently by the hand
Thro’ the dreary desert land,
I shall e’er be safe with Thee,—

For the way I cannot see,
And the perils cannot know
If Thou do not with me go.
I must cling to Thee each day
Lest I wander from the way;
Keep me, Jesus, close to Thee;

Till I reach the narrow sea,
Till I cross the swelling tide
Stay Thou ever by my side;
Till I reach the shining strand
Lead me by Thy pierced hand,
Till in glory I shall be,
