56. We Thank Thee, O God

1 We thank Thee, O God, for the gifts Thou hast giv’n,
The blessings Thy love hath bestowed;
Thy goodness and mercy our tongues would recite,
And publish Thy praises abroad.

Refrain:
How great is Thy mercy and goodness and love
To us-ward, our God and our King!
Of all Thou hast done for the children of men,
Our voices forever could sing.

2 We thank Thee, O God, for all things Thou hast made,
Our senses, our souls to delight;
The beauties and glories that greet us by day,
The wonders and splendors of night. [Refrain]

3 We thank Thee for life, that mysterious gift,
How strange, how elusive, how sweet!
For being created and quickened by Thee,
With powers so wondrous, replete. [Refrain]

4 We thank Thee for love, that most wonderful gift,
For friendships and fellowships dear;
For all the enjoyment and pleasures they yield,
For home with its gladness and cheer. [Refrain]

5 We thank Thee for Him,—“Thy unspeakable gift,”
Without whom all others were vain;
For Jesus, our Light, our Salvation, our All,
Our Hope till His coming again. [Refrain]
