85. Perfect Trust in Thee

1 I ask, O Lord, that thou will lead
My erring steps aright,
I ask for grace that I may walk
By faith, and not by sight.

Refrain:
O let the language of my heart,
In each petition be,
“Take what thou wilt, but grant me this,
A perfect trust in thee.”

2 I do not ask a cloudless sky,
Not yet a path of rest,
But strength to climb the rugged steep,
Thy weary feet have pressed. [Refrain]

3 I would not seek in idle mirth,
To still one throb of care,
For what are all the joys of earth,
Without thy presence there? [Refrain]

4 O clothe me in thy righteousness,
Hold thou my hand in thine,
And teach my heart in faith to say,
Thy will, O Lord, be mine. [Refrain]
