158. Close to Thy Heart

1 Close to Thy heart, blessed Saviour,
Nearer to Thy wounded side,
Far from the din of life’s battles,
Under Thy wings let me hide;
There I find refuge from danger,
There naught my peace can destroy,
There I find comfort in sorrow,
There is contentment and joy.

Refrain:
Close to Thy heart, close to Thy heart,
Lord, let me ever abide;
There on Thy breast, may I find rest,
Under Thy wings let me hide.

2 Days have been darksome and dreary,
Battles I’ve fought all alone,
And the vain world with its splendor,
To me distasteful has grown;
No one but Thou can relieve me
Of all the burdens I bear,
No one like Thou can receive me,
No one with Thee can compare. [Refrain]

3 Sweet is Thy blest invitation,
“Come unto me and find rest,”
Like unto music supernal,
Unto the sad and opprest;
Leaving my failures behind me,
Gladly forgetting the past,
Coming to Thee I shall surely
Find what I’ve sought for, at last. [Refrain]
