460. Lord God of Hosts, Whose Purpose

1 Lord God of Hosts, whose purpose, never swerving,
Leads toward the day of Jesus Christ your Son,
Grant us to march among your faithful legions,
Armed with your courage, till the world is won.

2 Strong Son of God, whose work was his that sent you,
One with the Father, thought and deed and word,
One make us all, true comrades in your service,
And make us one in you with God the Lord.

3 O Prince of Peace, the bringer of good tidings,
Teach us to speak your word of hope and cheer—
Rest for the soul, and strength for all man's striving,
Light for the path of life, and God brought near.

4 Lord God, whose grace has called us to your service,
How good your thoughts toward us, how great their sum!
We work with you, we go where you wilt lead us,
Until in all the earth your kingdom come.

Amen.
