215. Thou great high priest and teacher

1 Thou great High Priest and teacher, Give me and ev’ry creature Much incense unto pray’r, True hearts, sincere and pious, The light of grace be nigh us, Of all strange spirits to beware. 2 An ear to hear Thee gladly, An eye that nothing sadly Will turn from Thee away. My lips be pure and holy, Careful my feet and wholly Prepared with Thee to go Thy way. 3 My hands give blessed greeting. My soul its best friend meeting, His temple would I be. I feel an exultation. Thy Spirit’s animation, Which none but God’s elect can see. 4 Oh, friend so kind and truthful, Come pour Thy Spirit fruitful Upon each pray’rful heart! Each time we come before Thee To worship and implore Thee, Thy light and grace to us impart.
