| Text: | New Year |
| Author: | Rev. H. B. Hartzler |
| Tune: | [How swiftly come and swiftly go] |
| Composer: | S. W. Straub |
1 How swiftly come and swiftly go
The happy days in ceaseless flow!
With pang of pain and joyous song,
How roll the freighted years along.
Chorus:
We praise thee, Lord, that we may hear
The footsteps of another year,
And pray thee, help us by thy grace
To reach thy heavenly dwelling place.
2 The years of life are fleet and few;
We pass the Old and hail the New,
And onward hasten to the land
Where rolling ages never end. [Chorus]
3 The story of the bygone year
Is whispered in Jehovah's ear:
What tale of life the next shall tell
May fix our lot for heaven or hell. [Chorus]
4 O Father, leave me not alone,
To walk the Future's ways unknown:
My sins, O let thy mercy hide,
And let me in thy love abide. [Chorus]
