Songs of Praise

Preface: "For a number of years there has been a desire to have in convenient form the old favorite songs used for so many years in Christ in Song. There is also a definite need for a small book that can be used in camp meetings, special convocations, Sabbath school, and in other groups where it is not practical to supply the Church Hymnal. Songs of Praise is intended to fulfill both of these needs. Of the 250 songs in the book, 200 formerly appeared in Christ in Song. In the selection of the songs, an extensive poll guided the compilers to the most popular. In addition there are a few well-known and well-loved songs from other books. These are songs that people want to sing. We commend this book to Seventh-day Adventist congregations everywhere.

The Lord in Zion reigneth[The Lord in Zion reigneth]
O worship the King[O worship the King]
Guide me, O thou great Jehovah
Praise Him! praise Him! Jesus our blessed Redeemer!
This is my Father's world
Jesus, Thou hast promised that where two or three
O worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness
I sing the mighty power of God
How firm a foundation, ye saints of the Lord
Lead on, O King Eternal
Be silent, be silent
There is a place of quiet rest
Come, Thou Fount of every blessing
Love divine, all loves excelling
Let us work for the school with our hearts and our hands
To God be the glory, great things He hath done
Sweet Sabbath School! more dear to me
Wake the song of joy and gladness
In joyful high and holy lays
A year of precious blessings
O God, our help in ages past
Great God, we sing that mighty hand
Another year is dawning!
For all the blessings of the year
Come, ye thankful people, come
Now thank we all our God
Welcome, delightful morn
Don't forget the Sabbath
Safely through another week
Holy Sabbath day of rest
O day of rest and gladness
Again the day returns of holy rest
How sweet upon this sacred day
Welcome, welcome, day of rest
Holy day, Jehovah's rest
Break Thou the bread of life
An open Bible for the world!
O Word of God Incarnate
Give me the Bible, star of gladness gleaming
A glory in the word we find
Standing on the promises of Christ my King
Open my eyes, that I may see
I love the sacred Book of God
Thy Word is like a garden, Lord
Sing them over again to me
Searching the Scriptures, the blessed Scriptures
Faith of our fathers! living still
All hail the power of Jesus' name!
Awake, my soul, in joyful lays
I will sing of Jesus' love
The Great Physician now is near
I've found a Friend; oh, such a Friend!
I have a Friend so precious
There's not a friend like the lowly Jesus
Oh, the best friend to have is Jesus
Take the name of Jesus with you
The name of Jesus is so sweet
There's no other name like Jesus
Dearest name in earth or heaven
Jesus, my Saviour, to Bethlehem came
O come, all ye faithful, joyful and triumphant
Hark! the herald angels sing
Silent night, holy night
O little town of Bethlehem
On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross
Alas! and did my Saviour bleed?
Alas! and did my Saviour bleed?
I gave My life for thee
Tell me the old, old story
I must needs go home by the way of the cross
Tell me the story of Jesus
Fairest Lord Jesus
I will sing of my Redeemer
King of my life, I crown Thee now
Lift Him up, 'tis He that bids you
Jesus calls us; o'er the tumult
Softly and tenderly Jesus is calling
There were ninety and nine that safely lay
Someone will enter the pearly gate
Jesus is tenderly calling thee home
I heard the voice of Jesus say
"Whosoever heareth," shout, shout the sound!
Jesus, the loving Shepherd
All to Jesus I surrender
I have a Saviour, He's pleading in glory
A ruler once came to Jesus by night
Lord Jesus, I long to be perfectly whole
Pass me not, O gentle Saviour
Blessed Jesus, meek and lowly
Baptize us anew
All the darkness of the night has passed away
Redeemed! how I love to proclaim it!
We have heard a joyful sound
There's life in a look at the sacred cross
I love to tell the story
Earthly friends may prove untrue
Christ has for sin atonement made
O hear my cry, be gracious now to me
Have I need of aught, O Saviour!
My heart was distress'd 'neath Jehovah's dread frown
