Marty Haugen has a unique approach to this hymn of all hymns. In both English and Spanish, he uses the opening three sentences as a refrain. The verses then are arranged in a call and response litany form with the cantor alternating phrases with the people's responses. The choir eventually breaks into harmony on the responses.
