Christie, Albany James, M.A., was b. in London Dec. 18, 1817, entered Oriel Coll., Oxford, 1835 (B.A. 1839, M.A. 1842), and was Fellow of Oriel from 1840 until he was received into the Church of Rome in 1845. In 1847 he became a member of the Society of Jesus, in 1856 was appointed Superior of the Jesuit Seminary at Stonyhurst, Lanca., in 1858 went on mission work, and in 1862 came to Farm Street Church, London. He died in London May 2, 1891, (De Backer, 1891, ii. App. p. xi.). In the Appendix to his The First Christmas, 1876, are a number of hymns, three of which have passed into use, viz.:—
1. Brethren, see in Mary's birth. Nativity of B. V. M.
2. One Virgin sought, another. St. Lucy.
3. To Jesus' Heart, all burning. The Sacred Heart.
