Elkanah Kelsay Dare (1782-1826)
Born: January 15, 1782, New Jersey (variously reported as Cumberland County or Salem County).
Died: August 26, 1826, Colerain Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.
Buried: Old Union Cemetery, Colerain Township, Pennsylvania.
Dare joined the Presbyterian church in Greenwich, Cumberland County, New Jersey, at age 23. From 1817 to until his death, he pastored at the Union Presbyterian Church, Colerain Township, Pennsylvania. He also served as Dean of Boys at Wilmington College, Delaware. A musician as well as a minister and educator, his original compositions can be traced back to the popular Repository of Sacred Music, Part Second, 1820.
