Peter Irvine is an Episcopal priest and musician, currently performing with the Rock River String Band and the Lanier Consort. He has written many psalm paraphrases and original hymn texts, as well as hymn tunes, some of which are found on My.Hymnary.org. He attended Pittsburgh Theological Seminary and completed a Master of Divinity from General Theological Seminary in 2002. He had also earned a Bachelor of Arts and Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Tennessee, where he was born and lived until 1982. He plays piano, organ, harpsichord, guitar, mountain dulcimer and penny whistle, and especially enjoys music with a Celtic flavor. He worked with Harry Plantinga beginning in 1993 to create the online editions of Southern Harmony (a 19th century shape-note hymnal) and the 1916 Episcopal Hymnal on the Christian Classics Ethereal Library (CCEL), recording midi files for the more than 350 tunes in Southern Harmony. He also volunteers to enhance the hymnary.org database, with particular responsibility for hymnals of the Episcopal Church. He is an associate of the Order of Julian of Norwich (OJN), based in White Lake, Wisconsin, through which he met his wife Janet Marie Irvine, also an affiliate of OJN.
