Chaplain in the Union Army; Universalist minister who served churches in New England; in Albany, New York; and in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Editor and author. His hymns beginning "Bells, ring out with cheerful might" and "Shepherd of the holy hills" are included in Church Harmonies: New and Old (1895).
