MacPherson became a chorister at St. Paul’s Cathedral in 1879. He studied at the Royal Academy of Music, and later served as choir master at St. Clement’s Eastcheap; organist for Sir Robert Menzies at Weem, Aberfeldy, Perthshire (1887); Madam de Falba’s chapel at Luton Hoo Park, Bedfordshire (1889); assistant organist at St. Paul’s Cathedral (1895), and organist there (1916). His works include:
