Son of God, thy blessing grant

Author: C. Wesley Meter: 7.7.7.7 Appears in 100 hymnals Scripture: Isaiah 42:3 Lyrics: 1 Son of God, thy blessing grant; Still supply my every want; Tree of life, thine influence shed: From thy fullness I am fed. 2 Tend'rest branch, alas, am I-- Wither without thee and die; Weak as helpless infancy: Oh, confirm my soul in thee! 3 Unsustained by thee, I fall; Send the help for which I call: Weaker than a bruised reed, Help I every moment need. 4 All my hopes on thee depend; Love me, save me to the end; Give me persevering grace: Take the everlasting praise. God Is Working His Purpose Out

Author: Arthur Campbell Ainger Meter: Irregular Appears in 93 hymnals Scripture: Isaiah 42:4 Lyrics: 1 God is working his purpose out as year succeeds to year: God is working his purpose out, and the time is drawing near; nearer and nearer draws the time, the time that shall surely be, when the earth shall be filled with the glory of God as the waters cover the sea. 2 From utmost east to utmost west, where'er the church has gone, by the mouth of many messengers the call of God has come: Give ear to me, you continents; you isles, give ear to me, that the earth may be filled with the glory of God as the waters cover the sea. 3 March we forth in the strength of God, with the banner of Christ unfurled, that the light of the glorious gospel of truth may shine throughout the world: fight we the fight with sorrow and sin to set their captives free, that the earth may be filled with the glory of God as the waters cover the sea. 4 All we can do is done in vain unless God blesses the deed; vainly we hope for the harvesttide till God gives life to the seed; yet nearer and nearer draws the time, the time that shall surely be, when the earth shall be filled with the glory of God as the waters cover the sea. God Is Here!

Author: Fred Pratt Green Meter: 8.7.8.7 D Appears in 47 hymnals Scripture: Isaiah 42:1 First Line: God is here! As we your people Lyrics: 1 God is here! As we your people meet to offer praise and prayer, may we find in fuller measure what it is in Christ we share. Here, as in the world around us, all our varied skills and arts wait the coming of the Spirit into open minds and hearts. 2 Here are symbols to remind us of our lifelong need of grace; here are table, font, and pulpit; here the cross has central place. Here in honesty of preaching, here in silence, as in speech, here, in newness and renewal, God the Spirit comes to each. 3 Here our children find a welcome in the Shepherd's flock and fold; here as bread and wine are taken, Christ sustains us as of old. Here the servants of the Servant seek in worship to explore what it means in daily living to believe and to adore. 4 Lord of all, of church and kingdom, in an age of change and doubt keep us faithful to the gospel; help us work your purpose out. Here, in this day's dedication, all we have to give, receive: we, who cannot live without you, we adore you! We believe! Topics: Children; The Church; Community in Christ; Dedication; Gathering; Lord's Supper; Offering; The Triune God; Vocation; Will of God Used With Tune: ABBOT’S LEIGH

Isaiah 42:1-13: Behold my Servant! see him rise

Meter: 8.6.8.6 Appears in 27 hymnals Scripture: Isaiah 42:1-13 First Line: Behold my Servant! see him rise Lyrics: Behold my Servant! see him rise exalted in my might! Him have I chosen, and in him I place supreme delight. On him, in rich effusion poured, my Spirit shall descend; My truths and judgments he shall show to earth’s remotest end. Gentle and still shall be his voice, no threats from him proceed; The smoking flax he shall not quench, nor break the bruised reed. The feeble spark to flames he’ll raise; the weak will not despise; Judgment he shall bring forth to truth, and make the fallen rise. The progress of his zeal and pow’r shall never know decline, Till foreign lands and distant isles receive the law divine. He who erected heav’ns bright arch, and bade the planets roll, Who peopled all the climes of earth, and formed the human soul, Thus saith the Lord, Thee have I raised, my Prophet thee install; In right I’ve raised thee, and in strength I’ll succour whom I call. 132 I will establish with the lands a covenant in thee, To give the Gentile nations light, and set the pris’ners free: Asunder burst the gates of brass; the iron fetters fall; And gladsome light and liberty are straight restored to all. I am the Lord, and by the name of great JEHOVAH known; No idol shall usurp my praise, nor mount into my throne. Lo! former scenes, predicted once conspicuous rise to view; And future scenes, predicted now, shall be accomplished too. Sing to the Lord in joyful strains! let earth his praise resound, Ye who upon the ocean dwell, and fill the isles around! O city of the Lord! begin the universal song; And let the scattered villages the cheerful notes prolong. Let Kedar’s wilderness afar lift up its lonely voice; And let the tenants of the rock with accents rude rejoice; Till ‘midst the streams of distant lands the islands sound his praise; And all combined, with one accord, JEHOVAH’s glories raise.
