I hunger and I thirst

Author: J. S. B. Monsell, 1811-1875 Hymnal: Common Praise #306 (2000) Meter: 6.6.6.6 Scripture: Psalm 114:8 Lyrics: 1 I hunger and I thirst: Jesu, my manna be; ye living waters, burst out of the rock for me. 2 Thou bruised and broken Bread, my life-long wants supply; as living souls are fed, O feed me, or I die. 3 Thou true life-giving Vine, let me thy sweetness prove; renew my life with thine, refresh my soul with love. 4 Rough paths my feet have trod since first their course began: feed me, thou Bread of God; help me, thou Son of Man. 5 For still the desert lies my thirsting soul before: O living waters, rise within me evermore. Psalm 114

Author: Isaac Watts Hymnal: Psalms and Hymns of Isaac Watts, The #Ps.250 (1806) Meter: 8.8.8.8 Scripture: Psalm 114 First Line: When Isr'el, freed from Pharaoh's hand Lyrics: When Isr'el, freed from Pharaoh's hand, Left the proud tyrant and his land, The tribes with cheerful homage own Their King, and Judah was his throne. Across the deep their journey lay; The deep divides to make them way; Jordan beheld their march, and fled With backward current to his head. The mountains shook like frighted sheep, Like lambs the little hillocks leap; Not Sinai on her base could stand, Conscious of sovereign power at hand. What power could make the deep divide? Make Jordan backward roll his tide? Why did ye leap, ye little hills? And whence the fright that Sinai feels? Let every mountain, every flood, Retire and know th' approaching God, The King of Isr'el: see him here; Tremble, thou earth, adore and fear. He thunders, and all nature mourns; The rock to standing pools he turns; Flints spring with fountains at his word, And fires and seas confess the Lord.
