Lord God, your love has called us here

Author: Brian Wren (born 1936) Meter: 8.8.8.8.8.8 Appears in 34 hymnals Topics: Pentecost 11 The Serving Community Lyrics: 1 Lord God, your love has called us here as we, by love, for love were made; your living likeness still we bear, though marred, dishonoured, disobeyed. We come, with all our heart and mind your call to hear, your love to find. 2 We come with self-inflicted pains of broken trust and chosen wrong, half-free, half-bound by inner chains, by social forces swept along, by powers and systems close confined yet seeking hope for all humankind. 3 Lord God, in Christ you call our name and then receive us as your own not through some merit, right or claim but by your gracious love alone. We strain to glimpse your mercy-seat and find you kneeling at our feet. 4 Then take the towel, and break the bread, and humble us, and call us friends; suffer and serve till all are fed and show how grandly love intends to work till all creation sings, to fill all worlds, to crown all things. 5 Lord God, in Christ you set us free your life to live, your joy to share: give us your Spirit's liberty to turn from guilt and dull despair, and offer all that faith can do while love is making all things new. With Grateful Heart My Thanks I Bring

Meter: 8.8.8.8.8.8 with repeat Appears in 15 hymnals Topics: Year B, Ordinary Time after Pentecost, June 5-11 (if after Trinity Sunday) Lyrics: 1 With grateful heart my thanks I bring; before the "gods" your praise I sing. I worship in your holy place and praise you for your truth and grace; for truth and grace together shine in your most holy Word divine, in your most holy Word divine. 2 I cried to you, and you did save; your word of grace new courage gave. The kings of earth shall thank you, LORD, for they have heard your wondrous word; yes, they shall come with songs of praise for great and glorious are your ways, for great and glorious are your ways. 3 O LORD, enthroned in glory bright, you reign alone in heavenly height; the proud in vain your favor seek, but you have mercy for the meek. Through trouble though my pathway be, you will revive and strengthen me, you will revive and strengthen me. 4 You will stretch forth your mighty arm to save me when my foes alarm. The work you have for me begun shall by your grace be fully done. Your love forever will endure: your mercy, LORD, is ever sure; your mercy, LORD, is ever sure. What Shall I Render to the LORD

Meter: 8.8.8.8 Appears in 18 hymnals Topics: Year B, Ordinary Time after Pentecost, September 11-17 Lyrics: 1 What shall I render to the LORD for all his benefits to me? How shall my life, by grace restored, give worthy thanks, O LORD, to thee? 2 Salvation's cup of blessing now I take and call upon God's name. Before his saints I pay my vow and here my gratitude proclaim. 3 His saints the LORD delights to save; their death is precious in his sight. He has redeemed me from the grave, and in his service I delight. 4 With thankful heart I offer now my gift and call upon God's name. Before his saints I pay my vow and here my gratitude proclaim. 5 Within his house, the house of prayer, I dedicate myself to God. Let all his saints his grace declare and join to sound his praise abroad. Scripture: Psalm 116 Used With Tune: ROCKINGHAM Text Sources: Psalter, 1912, alt.

The LORD God from His Throne on High

Author: Marie J. Post Meter: 8.8.6.8.8.6 D Appears in 1 hymnal Topics: Year A, Ordinary Time after Pentecost, June 5-11 (if after Trinity Sunday) Lyrics: 1 The LORD God from his throne on high looks down with clear and searching eye on all that dwell below; and he that fashioned heart and mind looks ever down on human-kind, their hearts and minds to know. Not human strength or mighty hosts, not charging steeds or warlike boasts can save from overthrow; but God will save from death and shame all those who fear and trust his name, and they no want shall know. 2 God's eye is on all those who fear; to those who hope, the LORD is near, according to his Word. Death cannot touch those in his hand, nor famine conquer in the land; we wait upon the LORD. In God our hope is firm and sure, who makes the joyful heart secure, our helper strong and true. Our trust is in your holy name; your mercy, LORD, in faith we claim, as we have hoped in you. Scripture: Psalm 33 Used With Tune: GENEVAN 68 Text Sources: Psalter Hymnal, 1934 (St. 1)
