As we his people Meet to offer praise and prayer, May we find in fuller measure What it is in Christ we share: Here, as in the world around us, All our varied skills and arts Wait the coming of his Spirit Into open minds and hearts. 2 Here are symbols to remind us Of our lifelong need of grace; Here are table, font and pulpit; Here the cross has central place: Here in honesty of preaching, Here in silence as in speech, Here in newness and renewal God the Spirit comes to each. 3 Here our children find a welcome In the Shepherd's flock and fold; Here, as bread and wine are taken, Christ sustains us as of old: Here the servants of the Servant Seek in worship to explore What it means in daily living To believe and to adore. 4 Lord of all, of church and kingdom, In an age of change and doubt, Keep us faithful to the gospel, Help us work your purpose out: Here, in this day's dedication, All we have to give, receive; We who cannot live without you, We adore you! We believe! Scripture: 1 Corinthians 12:27-31 Used With Tune: ABBOT'S LEIGH

By Grace I Am An Heir Of Heaven

Author: H. Brueckner; Chr. Ludwig Scheidt Meter: 9.8.9.8.8.8 Appears in 9 hymnals Topics: The Means of Grace Faith and Justification Lyrics: 1 By grace I am an heir of heaven: Why doubt this, O my trembling heart? If what the Scriptures promise clearly Is true and firm in ev'ry part, This also must be truth divine: By grace a crown of life is thine. 2 By grace alone shall I inherit That blissful home beyond the skies. Works count for naught, the Lord incarnate Hath won for me the heav'nly prize. Salvation by His death He wrought, His grace alone my pardon bought. 3 By grace! These precious words remember When sorely by thy sins oppressed, When Satan comes to vex thy spirit, When troubled conscience sighs for rest; What reason cannot comprehend God doth to thee by grace extend. 4 By grace! This fount of our salvation As long as God is truth shall flow. What all the men of God have written, What God's own words so plainly show, What faith alone can rest upon Is grace, In Christ, God's only Son. 5 By grace! Be this in death my comfort; Despite my fears, 'tis well with me. I know my sin in all its greatness, But also Him who sets me free. My heart to naught but joy gives place, Since I am saved by grace, by grace. Used With Tune: ELBE

Jesus, my Lord, attend

Author: C. Wesley Meter: 6.6.8.6 Appears in 57 hymnals Topics: The Order of Salvation Faith and Justification Lyrics: 1 Jesus, my Lord, attend Thy fallen creature's cry; And show Thyself the sinner's Friend, And set me up on high: From hell's oppressive power, From earth and sin release; And to Thy Father's grace restore, And to Thy perfect peace. 2 Thy Blood and Righteousness I make my only plea; My present and eternal peace Are both derive from Thee: Rivers of life divine From Thee, their fountain, flow; And all who know that love of Thine, The joy of angels know. 3 O then, impute, impart To me Thy righteousness, And let me taste how good Thou art, How full of truth and grace: That Thou canst here forgive Grant me to testify, And justified by faith to live, And in that faith to die. Tis the Most Blest and Needful Part

Author: Philip Heinrich Molther, 1714-1780; Christian Renatus von Zinzendorf, 1727-1752; Christian Gregor, 1723-1801 Appears in 10 hymnals Topics: The Life in Christ Faith and Justification First Line: 'Tis the most blest and needful part Lyrics: 1 ‘Tis the most blest and needful part To have in Christ a share, And to commit our way and heart Unto His faithful care; This done, our steps are safe and sure, Our hearts’ desires are rendered pure, And naught can pluck us from His hand, Which lead us to the end. 2 Naught in this world affords true rest But Christ’s atoning blood. This purifies the guilty breast, And reconciles to God. Hence flows unfeigned love to Him Who came lost sinners to redeem, And Christ our Savior doth appear Daily to us more dear. 3 My lasting joy and comfort here Is Jesus’ death and blood; I with this passport can appear Before the throne of God. Admitted to the realms of bliss, I then shall see Him as He is, Where countless pardoned sinners meet Adoring at His feet. Used With Tune: WORSHIP

The Peace Of God Protects Our Hearts

Author: J. C. Aaberg; N. F. S. Grundtvig Meter: 8.8.8.8 Appears in 4 hymnals Topics: The Means of Grace Faith and Justification Lyrics: 1 The peace of God protects our hearts Against the tempter’s fiery darts; It is as sure when darkness falls As when the golden morning calls. 2 This is the peace our Savior wrought When on the cross the foe He fought; And when to heav'n He upward soared His peace He left us in His Word. 3 His word of peace new strength imparts Each day to faint and troubled hearts, And in the cup and at the font It satisfies our deepest want. 4 This blessed peace our Lord will give To all who in the Spirit live; Yea, even at their parting breath They peacefully await their death. 5 But know, ye people of the Lord, That only this can help afford: That hearts believe to righteousness And tongues the word of peace confess. 6 For when the Lord our peace had won, He asked for faith, and faith alone. By faith, and not our merits vain, We grace and peace from God obtain. 7 Peace be with thee, the Savior saith In answer to our word of faith; Whoso has faith, he shall have peace And live in joy that ne'er shall cease. Used With Tune: BARNEKOW

Our whole Salvation doth depend

Appears in 7 hymnals Topics: Faith and Justification Lyrics: I. Our whole Salvation doth depend On God's free Grace and Spirit; all our good Works can ne'er defend A Boast upon our Merit Derived is our Righteousness From Christ and his attoning Grace; He is our Mediator. II. What God commanded in the Law Was far beyond our Doing: There sinful Nature Nothing saw But hopeless Death and Ruin. The fiery Mount spreads black Despair: There's no Reprieve nor Pardon there For us Apostate-Wretches. III. Who can maintain the bold Conceit, That poor Mankind was able T'observe by Means of Nat'ral Light, The first and second Table? The LAW reveals the Root of Sin, Which lay before conceal'd within, With all its hellish Branches. IV. No! t'was beyond all human Art To purge that deep Pollution; All Means to move the poison'd Dart Confirm'd the foul Difusion. The Lord a feigned Work abhors; Mere Flesh increases but the Curse Of our intail'd Corruption. V. The LAW cried, Justice must be done, Or Men doom'd to Damnation: But Mercy sent th'eternal Son, Who purchas'd our Salvation, Fulfill'd the LAW in its Extent, And gave its Wrath a thorough Vent, To pass the Sons of ADAM. VI. Thus having all the LAW fulfill'd Through CHRIST'S blest Cross and Passion, He's now the Rock, whereon we build Our Faith and whole Salvation. We call him Lord, our Righteousness, Whose Death has purchas'd Life and Grace, And ransom'd us for ever. VII. My Faith avoids all Doubt and Fear; Thy Word can ne'er deceive me; Thou say'st no Sinner shall despair, None perish who believes Thee. Who rests on God, and is baptiz'd, Is surely the Redeem'd by CHRIST, And 'scapes eternal Torment. VIII. The Man that bears the Faith that shines In Works of christian Merit, Is justified, and bears the Signs Of a confessing Spirit. A living Faith's what God regards, His Love doth Good without Rewards. Art thou new born in Spirit? IX. The LAW reveals sins Sinfulness. Inhancing th' Accusation, The Gospel tenders saving Grace For Sinners Consolation; Bids all lay hold on JESU"S Cross; The LAW could ne'er retrieve our Loss, With all its best Performance. X. True genuine Gospel-Works denote A Faith of God's inspiring. That Faith is vain, which is remote And from Good Works retiring. Yet Faith alone's what justifies, The Love t'our Neighbour well implies, We are sincere Believers. XI. The living Hope with Patience waits God's promis'd Consolation, Takes all the Turns of Ease and Streights With Christian Resignation. God knows the Time for our Relief, T'asswage our greatest Pain and Grief, In him we have Affiance. XII. Be not cast down, when he delays To crown thine Expectation; He then is nearest, when thy Ways Seem full of Desolation; On his eternal Word rely, E'en tho' thy war'ving Heart deny, And trust in thy Redeemer. XIII. To Father, Son and Holy Ghost Immortal Praise be given; Whose Passion to restore Men lost Is all the Song of heaven. May JEWS and all the Gentile-Race Soon call Thee Lord their Righteousness: Thy Name be ever ahllow'd. XIV. Thy Kingdom come, thy Will be done As 'tis by Saints in Glory; With daily Bread our Tables crown; Forgive our Sins before Thee, As we forgive our Debtors here: Let no Temptation breed Despair: From Ill redeem us, Amen. Used With Tune: [Our whole Salvation doth depend]
