As newborn stars were stirred to song

Author: Carl P. Daw Jr. (b. 1944) Meter: 8.6.8.6 D Appears in 1 hymnal Topics: Hymns and Spiritual Songs Praise Lyrics: 1 As newborn stars were stirred to song when all things came to be, as Miriam and Moses sang when Israel was set free, so music bursts unbidden forth when God-filled hearts rejoice, to waken awe and gratitude and give mute faith a voice. 2 In psalms that raise the singer’s sense to universal truths, in prophet’s dark-toned oracle or hymn of three brave youths: the song of faith and praise endured through those God called to be a chosen people bearing light for all the world to see. 3 When God’s redeeming Word took flesh to make salvation sure, unheeding hearts attuned to strife refused love’s overture. Yet to the end the song went on: a supper’s parting hymn, a psalm intoned on dying lips when sun and hope grew dim. 4 But silence won no vict’ry there; a rest was all it scored before glad alleluias rose to greet the risen Lord. The church still keeps that song alive, for death has lost its sting, and with the gift of life renewed the heart will ever sing. Scripture: Exodus 15:1 Used With Tune: ALEXANDRA

Author: Joseph Smith, 1832-1914 Appears in 5 hymnals Topics: Adoration and Praise Close of Service Lyrics: 1 Lord, let thy blessing rest in peace Upon us ere we part, Nor let that blessing ever cease To cheer the contrite heart. 2 Let us go hence in deepest thought Upon thy bounteous love To find how much that love has wrought To lift our souls above. 3 We go from out these hallowed walls To toil in wearying care, To seek supply for daily calls, And daily burdens bear. 4 Cheer us, blest Lord, for daily tasks, That we may love and live; For peace each saint in parting asks, The peace that Christ can give. In his hand he gently bears us, rescues us from all our foes. Alleluia, alleluia! Widely yet his mercy flows! 4 Angels, help us to adore him; you behold him face to face. O For a Thousand Tongues to Sing

Author: Charles Wesley Meter: 8.6.8.6 Appears in 1,768 hymnals Topics: The Glory of the Triune God Praise and Thanksgiving; Adoration and Praise Lyrics: 1. O for a thousand tongues to sing my great Redeemer's praise, the glories of my God and King, the triumphs of his grace! 2. My gracious Master and my God, assist me to proclaim, to spread through all the earth abroad the honors of thy name. 3. Jesus! the name that charms our fears, that bids our sorrows cease; 'tis music in the sinner's ears, 'tis life, and health, and peace. 4. He breaks the power of canceled sin, he sets the prisoner free; his blood can make the foulest clean; his blood availed for me. 5. He speaks, and listening to his voice, new life the dead receive; the mournful, broken hearts rejoice, the humble poor believe. 6. Hear him, ye deaf; his praise, ye dumb, your loosened tongues employ; ye blind, behold your Savior come, and leap, ye lame, for joy. 7. In Christ, your head, you then shall know, shall feel your sins forgiven; anticipate your heaven below, and own that love is heaven. Used With Tune: AZMON
