Hail to the Lord's Anointed

Author: J. Montgomery Hymnal: The Lutheran Hymnary #168 (1913) Topics: The Church Year Third Sunday in Advent; The Church Year Third Sunday in Advent Lyrics: 1 Hail to the Lord's Anointed, Great David's greater Son! Hail, in the time appointed, His reign on earth begun! He comes to break oppression, To set the captive free, To take away transgression And rule in equity. 2 He comes with succor speedy To those who suffer wrong; To help the poor and needy, And bid the weak be strong; To give them songs for sighing; Their darkness turn to light, Whose souls, condemned and dying, Were precious in His sight. 3 He shall come down like showers Upon the fruitful earth; And love and joy, like flowers, Spring in His path to birth. Before Him, on the mountains, Shall peace, the herald, go; And righteousness, in fountains, From hill to valley flow. 4 Kings shall fall down before Him, And gold and incense bring; All nations shall adore Him, His praise all people sing; For He shall have dominion O'er river, sea and shore, Far as the eagle's pinion Or dove's light wing can soar. 5 For Him shall prayer unceasing And daily vows ascend; His kingdom still increasing A kingdom without end. The mountain-dews shall nourish A seed in weakness sown, Whose fruit shall spread and flourish And shake like Lebanon. 6 O'er ev'ry foe victorious, He on His throne shall rest, From age to age more glorious, All-blessing and all-blest. The tide of time shall never His covenant remove; His name shall stand for ever; That name to us is love! Tune Title: [Hail to the Lord's Anointed]

Jesus, Jesus, come to me

Author: J. Scheffler Hymnal: The Lutheran Hymnary #169 (1913) Topics: The Church Year Third Sunday in Advent; The Church Year Third Sunday in Advent Lyrics: 1 Jesus, Jesus, come to me; How my soul longs after Thee! When, my best, my dearest friend. Shall our separation end? 2 Lord, my longings never cease; Without Thee I find no peace; 'Tis my constant cry to Thee,-- Jesus, Jesus, come to me! 3 Mean the joys of earth appear, All below is dark and drear; Naught but Thy beloved voice Can my wretched heart rejoice. 4 Thou alone, my gracious Lord, Art my shield and great reward; All my hope, my Savior Thou,-- To Thy sovereign will I bow. 5 Come, and dwell within my heart; Purge its sin, and heal its smart; See, I ever cry to Thee,-- Jesus, Jesus, come to me! 6 Patiently I wait Thy day; For this gift alone I pray, That, when death shall visit me, Thou my light and life wilt be. Comfort, comfort ye my people

Author: J. Olearius Hymnal: The Lutheran Hymnary #170 (1913) Meter: 8.7.8.7.7.7.8.8 Topics: The Church Year Third Sunday in Advent; The Church Year Third Sunday in Advent Lyrics: 1 Comfort, comfort ye my people, Speak ye peace, thus saith our God; Comfort those who sit in darkness, Mourning ’neath their sorrows' load. Speak ye to Jerusalem Of the peace that waits for them; Tell her that her sins I cover, And her warfare now is over. 2 Yea, her sins our God will pardon, Blotting out each dark misdeed; All which well deserved His anger He will no more see or heed. She has suffered many a day, Now her griefs have passed away, God will change her pining sadness Into ever springing gladness. 3 For the herald’s voice is crying In the desert far and near, Bidding all men to repentance, Since the kingdom now is here. O that warning cry obey! Now prepare for God a way; Let the valleys rise to meet Him, And the hills bow down to greet Him. 4 Make ye straight what long was crooked, Make the rougher places plain, Let your hearts be true and humble, As befits His holy reign. For the glory of the Lord Now o’er earth is shed abroad, And all flesh shall see the token That His Word is never broken. Tune Title: [Comfort, comfort ye my people]

Her løber jeg i Blinde

Jesus: 5 Min Elskede, min Glæde, Udvalgte Hjertens Brud, Hvad volder dig at græde, Og se saa bange ud? Kom, hør og lad dig sige! Hvem blider dig do ind, At jeg dig kunde svige, Er da mit Ord kun Vind?

If Christ had not been raised from death

Author: Christopher Idle (b. 1938) Hymnal: Ancient and Modern #204 (2013) Meter: 8.6.8.6 D Topics: The Third Sunday before Advent Year C Lyrics: 1 If Christ had not been raised from death our faith would be in vain, our preaching but a waste of breath, our sin and guilt remain. But now the Lord is risen indeed; he rules in earth and heaven: his gospel meets a world of need — in Christ we are forgiven. 2 If Christ still lay within the tomb then death would be the end, and we should face our final doom with neither guide nor friend. But now the Saviour is raised up, so when a Christian dies we mourn, yet look to God in hope — in Christ the saints arise! 3 If Christ had not been truly raised his Church would live a lie; his name should nevermore be praised, his words deserve to die. But now our great Redeemer lives; through him we are restored: his word endures, his Church revives in Christ, our risen Lord. Scripture: 1 Corinthians 15:12-20 Languages: English Tune Title: KINGSFOLD
