With Heart and Voice in one Accord

Appears in 2 hymnals Scripture: Psalm 30 Lyrics: 1 With Heart and Voice in one Accord, I'll celebrate thy Praises, LORD: For thou hast set me up on high, Ev'n when insulting Foes were nigh; With Fury they my Peace assail'd, 'Till thy all-conqu'ring Arm prevali'd. 2 In my Distress I cry'd to thee, Who didst in Mercy set me free; My Eyes were almost clos'd in Death, And I had nigh resign'd my Breath; When thou my hopeless Life retriev'd, And from the Grave my Soul reliev'd. 3 Thus in his Courts, with Songs of Praise, Ye Saints your grateful Voices raise; His Truth and tender Love declare, And bless his providential Care: His tender Mercies loud proclaim, And ever bless his glorious Name. 4 His Anger soon is over-pass'd, His Favours will forever last; Tho' Sorrow may a Night endure, Yet in his loving Kindness sure; For with the chearful Dawn of Morn, His chearing Mercy will return. Your Night of Grief is recompens'd with Joy's returning Day. Part II 6 But I presum'd in prosp'rous Days, My Glory's yet unsully'd Rays; And as no low'ring clouds appear'd, So I no sudden Danger fear'd: I thought the LORD my Ways approve'd, And I should never be remov'd. 6 But soon I found thy Favour, LORD! Alone could solemn Joy afford: For when thy Face was trun'd away, My blooming Hopes dishonour'd lay; My Sin I humbly then confess'd, And thus again the LORD address'd. 7 "What Profit in my Blood is found, "When cold congealed in the Bround? "Can silent Ashes ever raise, "The glorious Tribute of thy Praise? "Oh then thy wonted Aid extend, "For on thee only I depend!" 11 'Tis done, and thou hast chang'd my Fate, Investing me in Robes of State; Thou hast my Grief to Gladness turn'd, Tho' lately I in Sack-cloth mourn'd; Therefore my Songs, with grateful Joy, In praising thee, I will employ. Topics: Thanksgivings For Recovery of Heatlh Used With Tune: [With heart and voice in one accord]

If I Could Visit Bethlehem

Author: Brian Wren Meter: 8.6.8.6 D Appears in 2 hymnals Scripture: Psalm 30:3 Lyrics: 1 If I could visit Bethlehem what presents would I bring? If I could see what happened then, what would I say or sing? I wouldn't take a modern toy but gold to pay for bread, some wine to give his parents joy and wool to warm his bed. 2 I'd learn some simple words to speak in Aramaic tongues. I'd cradle him, and kiss his cheek, and say, "I'm glad you've come." If Mary asked me who I was and what her child would do, I wouldn't talk about the cross or tell he all I knew. 3 I'd say, "He'll never hurt or kill, and joy will follow tears. We'll know his name and love him still in twenty hundred years." I cannot visit Bethlehem but what I can, I'll do: I'll love you, Jesus, as my friend, and give my life to you. Psalm XXX

Appears in 2 hymnals Scripture: Psalm 30 First Line: Thee, Lord, my thankful soul would bless Lyrics: I. Thee, Lord, my thankful soul would bless, Thee all my pow'rs adore; Thy hand has rais'd me from distress, My foes rejoice no more. II. O Lord, my God, oppress'd with grief, To thee I breath'd my cry; Thy mercy brought divine relief, And wip'd my tearful eye. III. Thy mercy chas'd the shades of death, And snatch'd me from the grave; O may thy praise employ that breath Which mercy deigns to save. IV. Come, O ye saints, your voices raise To God in grateful songs; And let the mem'ry of his grace, Inspire your hearts and tongues. V. His frown, what mortal can sustain? But soon his anger dies; His life-restoring smile again Returns, and sorrow flies. VI. Her deepest gloom when sorrow spreads, And light and hope depart, His smile celestial morning sheds, And joy revives the heart. VII. Beneath thy kind protecting arm How did my soul rejoice! And fondly hop'd no future harm Should ever shock my joys. VIII. Lord,'twas thy favour fix'd my rest; Thy shining face withdrew, And troubles fill'd my anxious breast, And pain'd my soul anew. IX. Again to thee, O gracious God, I rais'd my mournful eyes; To thee I spread my woes abroad, With supplicating cries. X. What glory can my death afford? In the dark grave confin'd, Shall senseless dust adore the Lord, Or call thy truth to mind? XI. Hear, O my God, in mercy hear, Attend my plaintive cry; Be thou, my gracious helper, near, And bid my sorrows fly. XII. Again I hear thy voice divine, New joys exulting bound; My robes of mourning I resign, And gladness girds me round. XIII. Then let my utmost glory be To raise thy honours high; Nor let my gratitude to thee In guilty silence die. XIV. To thee, my gracious God, I raise My thankful heart and tongue; O be thy goodness and thy praise My everlasting song.
