His faithfulness His saints have proved, Forever they shall stand unmoved, But sinners God will smite. 4 The righteous, through His favoring hand, Shall yet inherit all the land And dwell therein for aye; He talks of wisdom and of right, In God's pure law is his delight, His steps go not astray. So did the Hebrew prophet raise

Author: Isaac Watts Meter: 8.6.8.6 Appears in 49 hymnals Topics: Judgment day; Sinner and saint's portion; God the judge; Hypocrites and hypocrisy; Sins of tongue; Formal worship; Obedience better than sacrifice; Professions false; Saints rewarded at last Lyrics: So did the Hebrew prophet raise The brazen serpent high, The wounded felt immediate ease, The camp forbore to die. "Look upward in the dying hour, And live," the prophet cries; But Christ performs a nobler cure, When Faith lifts up her eyes. High on the cross the Savior hung, High in the heav'ns he reigns: Here sinners by th' old serpent stung Look, and forget their pains. When God's own Son is lifted up, A dying world revives; The Jew beholds the glorious hope, Th' expiring Gentile lives. Scripture: John 3:14-16

How large the promise, how divine

Author: Isaac Watts Meter: 8.6.8.6 Appears in 154 hymnals Topics: Judgment day; Sinner and saint's portion; God the judge; Hypocrites and hypocrisy; Sins of tongue; Formal worship; Obedience better than sacrifice; Professions false; Saints rewarded at last Lyrics: How large the promise, how divine, To Abram and his seed! "I'll be a God to thee and thine, Supplying all their need." The words of his extensive love From age to age endure; The Angel of the cov'nant proves, And seals the blessing sure. Jesus the ancient faith confirms, To our great fathers giv'n; He takes young children to his arms, And calls them heirs of heav'n. Our God, how faithful are his ways! His love endures the same; Nor from the promise of his grace Blots out the children's name. Scripture: Genesis 17:7

Gentiles by nature, we belong

Author: Isaac Watts Meter: 8.6.8.6 Appears in 26 hymnals Topics: Judgment day; Sinner and saint's portion; God the judge; Hypocrites and hypocrisy; Sins of tongue; Formal worship; Obedience better than sacrifice; Professions false; Saints rewarded at last Lyrics: Gentiles by nature, we belong To the wild olive wood; Grace took us from the barren tree, And grafts us in the good. With the same blessings grace endows The Gentile and the Jew; If pure and holy be the root, Such are the branches too. Then let the children of the saints Be dedicate to God, Pour out thy Spirit on them, Lord, And wash them in thy blood. Thus to the parents and their seed Shall thy salvation come, And num'rous households meet at last In one eternal home. Scripture: Romans 11:16-17
