O Praise the LORD, for It Is Good

Meter: 8.6.8.6 D Appears in 14 hymnals Topics: God as Creator Lyrics: 1 O praise the LORD, for it is good to sing unto our God; 'tis right and pleasant for God's saints to tell his praise abroad. The LORD our God builds up the church, finds those who draw apart; God binds their wounds and gently leads; he heals the broken heart. 2 Our Lord is great: he calls by name and counts the stars of night; God's wisdom is unsearchable, and wondrous is his might. The LORD upholds the poor and meek but brings the wicked low; sing praise to God who sends the rain, whose care the cattle know. 3 No human might, no earthly pride delights the LORD above; in those who fear him God delights, in those who trust his love. O Zion, praise the LORD your God, his wondrous love confess; God is your glory and your strength, he will your children bless. Scripture: Psalm 147 Used With Tune: MINERVA Text Sources: Psalter, 1912, alt.

Author: Charles Wesley Meter: 7.6.7.6.7.7.7.6 Appears in 20 hymnals Topics: God the Father, Creator Praise Lyrics: 1 Great is our Redeeming Lord, in pow'r, and truth, and grace; Him, by highest heav'n adored, His church on earth shall praise. In the city of our God, In His holy mount below, publish, spread His name abroad, and all His greatness show. 2 For Your loving kindness, Lord, we in Your temple stay; here Your faithful love record, Your saving pow'r display. With Your name Your praise is known, glorious Your perfections shine; earth’s remotest bounds shall own Your works are all divine. 3 See the gospel church secure, and founded on a rock; all her promises are sure; her bulwarks who can shock? Count her every precious shrine; tell, to after ages tell: fortified by pow'r divine, the church can never fail. 4 Zion’s God is all our own, who on His love rely; we His pardoning love have known, and live to Christ, and die. To the new Jerusalem He our faithful guide shall be; Him we claim, and rest in Him, through all eternity. Scripture: Psalm 147:1-5 Used With Tune: AMSTERDAM

The Greatness of God in Nature

Appears in 7 hymnals Topics: God Creator of All First Line: My soul, bless the Lord! Lyrics: 1 My soul, bless the Lord! the Lord is most great, With glory arrayed, majestic His state; The light is His garment, the skies are His shade, And over the waters His courts He has laid. 2 He rides on the clouds, the wings of the storm, The lightning and wind His mission perform; The earth He has founded her station to keep, And wrapped as a vesture about her the deep. 3 O'er mountain and plain the dark waters raged; His voice they obeyed, the floods were assuaged; Uplifting the mountains He ordered a bound, Forbidding the waters to cover the ground. 4 He causes the springs of water to flow In streams 'mid the hills and valleys below; Beside them with singing the birds greet the day. And there the beast gather their thirst to allay. Scripture: Psalm 104 Used With Tune: LYONS
