Make of Our Life a House of Praise

Author: Timothy Dudley-Smith, b.1926 Hymnal: Lead Me, Guide Me (2nd ed.) #611 (2012) Meter: 8.6.8.6 Scripture: Acts 2:42 Lyrics: 1 Make of our life a house of praise Where all, with one accord, Unite to walk in Jesus' ways, The temple of the Lord. 2 Here may we find our prayers are heard, And grow in truth and grace, Receive from Christ his holy word And know his love's embrace. 3 May such a house of calm and peace The Spirit strive to build; Where kindliness and faith increase, The storms of life are stilled. 4 Teach us our house of life to share, That all who will may come, The lost be doubly welcome there, The wand'rer find a home. 5 So may our doors be open wide, And life together prove A house where God is glorified, And a house of praise and love. We Meet as Friends at Table

Author: Brian Wren, 1936- Hymnal: Worship and Rejoice #704 (2003) Meter: 7.6.7.6 D Scripture: Acts 2:42-47 Lyrics: 1 We meet as friends at table, to listen, and be heard, united by the Spirit, attentive to the Word. Through prayer and conversation we tune our varied views to Christ, whose love has made us the bearers of good news. 2 With food and drink for sharing the table soon is spread. The freedom meal of Jesus is crowned with wine and bread, and all, without exception, may eat, and speak, and stay, for this is Christ's own table where none are turned away. 3 We share our lives and longings, and when the meal is done we pray as friends at table, and promise to be one. To Christ, and to each other, we cheerfully belong: apart, our hope is fruitless; together, we are strong. 4 Fulfilled, and glad to follow wherever Christ may lead, we journey from the table to love a world in need with patience, truth and kindness, that justice may increase and all may sit at table in freedom, joy, and peace. You Call Us, Lord, to Worship

Author: Carolyn Winfrey Gillette Hymnal: Songs of Grace #38 (2009) Meter: 7.6.7.6 D Scripture: Acts 2:43-47 First Line: You call us, Lord, to worship; the day is set aside Lyrics: You call us, Lord, to worship; the day is set aside. Your love is overflowing; the doors are opened wide. Yet as we see your goodness, we see what we have been. And so we humbly ask you, "Forgive us of our sin!" We are forgiven people; we know your love's embrace. The peace of Christ is with us; forgiveness fills this place. We hear your word in scripture, in sermon and in song. Again, again, you tell us: we're loved and we belong. We share our joys and sorrows and then we offer prayer For people who are hurting, for nations everywhere. We bring our tithes and offerings, returning what is yours, For what we keep may vanish, but what we give endures. We celebrate your love, Lord, with water, wine and bread. For at your font we're welcomed and at your feast we're fed. We pray the prayer you taught us; we sing your praise and then Through daily, faithful living, we worship you again.
