Author: Charles P. Jones Appears in 1 hymnal Scripture: Psalm 91:1-10 First Line: Who in the secret place doth abide Lyrics: 1 Who in the secret place doth abide
Of God, our Saviour most High,
Under His shadowing wing shall hide,
And danger ever defy;
Now I will say of the Lord that He
My refuge and fortress forever shall be,
My God eternal, in Him will I trust;
My soul no longer shall cleave to the dust.
2 He shall deliver thee from the snare,
From ev'ry fowler and pest;
Under His feathers so bright and fair
Thy life shall find a sweet rest;
Under His wing shalt thou ever abide
Behind His blest truth as a shield shalt thou hide,
His word a buckler to thee e'er shall be
To shield thy life from thine enemy.
3 By night the terror thou shalt not fear,
Nor arrows flying by day;
Dangers by night or in noonday clear
Shall have no terrors for thee;
Ten thousand at thy right hand shall fall
But nigh unto thee come no evil to all,
For with thine eyes alone, soul, shalt thou see
The sure reward of iniquity.
4 Because Jehovah thou now hast made
Thy habitation most high,
There shall no evil come on thy head,
No plague thy dwelling place nigh;
He charg'd His angels to keep thy ways
To bear thee up safe in their hands all thy days;
Upon the lion and adder thou'lt tread,
Because Jehovah has lifted thy head.
