Born: February 14, 1808, Naples, Italy.
Died: 1884, Hove, East Sussex, England.
Buried: Kensal Green Cemetery, London, England.
Costa learned the rudiments of music from his maternal grandfather, Giacomo Tritto; he was placed at the Real Collegio di Musica in Naples, and after a public exam received a scholarship from Ferdinand I, King of the Two Sicilies. He composed his first cantata at age 15, and went on to write symphonies, oratorios, operas, and quartets. He eventually moved to London, where he was knighted in 1869. In 1871, he became "director of the music, composer, and conductor" at Her Majesty’s opera.

William Alexander Barrett
1836 - 1891 Person Name: W. A. Barrett Composer of "BARRETT" in Christian Hymnal William Alexander Barrett was born in Hackney. At the age of 12 he sang in the choir of St Paul's Cathedral. He studied for a Bachelor of Music degree at Oxford. He returned to London and St Paul's as Vicar-Choral. He was also a music critic on the Morning Post and edited other publications. In later life he collected English folk music.

Charles Beecher
1815 - 1900 Arranger of "WESLEY" in Hymns and Devotions for Daily Worship Beecher, Charles, son of the well-known Dr. Lyman Beecher, whose autobiography he chiefly edited, and brother of Henry Ward Beecher, was born at Litchfield, Connecticut, 1815. Mr. Beecher was for some time a Congregational pastor at Georgetown, Mass. He has published Review of Spiritual Manifestations, 1853; Pen Pictures of the Bible, 1855, &c. His hymns were contributed to his brother's Plymouth Collection, 1855, and include:—
1. There's rest in the grave. Heaven.
2. We are on our journey home. Heaven.
The latter is in the more extensive use, but both are unknown to the English collections. [Rev. F. M. Bird, M.A.]

Elizabeth U. Emerson
b. 1860 Composer of "[Hail to the brightness of Zion's glad morning]" in Praise in Song Born: October 30, 1860, Boston, Massachusetts.
Elizabeth’s parents were Luther O. Emerson and Mary Jane Gove Emerson. She was named after her paternal aunt. In 1865, Elizabeth was living with her parents in Newton, Massachusetts; in 1900 with them in Hyde Park, Massachusetts; and 1910 she was still living with her father in Hyde Park.
