Richard Alldridge

1815 - 1896 Person Name: R. Alldridge Hymnal Number: aad38 Author of "O Lord, preserve thy chosen seed" in Sacred Hymns and Spiritual Songs, for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. 23rd ed. Richard Alldridge was born in 1815 in Floore, Northamptonshire, England. He worked as a shoemaker near Birmingham. In 1847 he was baptized into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and then spent several years as a missionary in England. He contributed five hymns to the 1840 Manchester Hymnal. He was appointed to preside over Warwickshire in 1857, which he did until he was released to emigrate to "Zion" - Salt Lake City in 1861. He contributed other hymns to church periodicals and hymnals. He died in 1896 in Cedar City, Utah. Ecking, Samuel, a Baptist, born at Shrewsbury, Dec. 5, 1757, died Jan. 16, 1785, contributed hymns to the Gospel Magazine, in 1778 and 1779, under the signature of "S. E—k—-g." Of these the hymn, "Peace, peace, my soul," is in common use. This hymn is also found in his Essays on Grace, Faith, and Experience. [William T. Herbert S. Auerbach

1882 - 1945 Person Name: Herbert Auerbach Hymnal Number: aaad1 Author of "Ye saints have faith and constant be" in Sacred Hymns and Spiritual Songs, for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. 23rd ed. Herbert S. Auerbach (1882–1945) was a prominent Jewish businessman in Salt Lake City and also a member of the Utah House of Representatives. He was manager of the Auerbach Company, a department store in Salt Lake City, where he was born. In addition, he was a mining engineer, real estate developer, and composer. He wrote more than 200 songs. Three of his songs are included in Church of the Latter Day Saints hymnals. Although Auerbach was not a member, he was a lifelong friend of the Church.
